This was the second new university to be created in 1992. It was established by decree of President Karimov, under the aegis Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. The objective was to train a new generation of highly educated young leaders, who would have a strong grounding in all aspects of international affairs (including law and the global economy) international). UWED has agreements for cooperation and staff-student exchanges with academic institutions in many parts of the world, including European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, China, Russian Federation and Canada. Most recently, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Leicester University (UK). Prestigious foreign visitors are often invited to speak at UWED and to engage in debate with the student body.
